commercial break
part of what we love about speesees are all the beautiful human children that wear our clothing & share in the fun. over the years, we have wrangled in friends' children to our numerous (& usually quite amateur; think: my 2 megapixel camera) photoshoots, & god bless em' (!) for all their patience & good senses of humor.
we recently had an idea to create a commercial.
each child born possesses a temperament which he or she carries throughout his or her life. by the ripe ol' age of 2, we can already recognize engrained personality characteristics. for the speesees commercial, we interviewed six children, ages 2 through 6, & although not at all certain what form it would take in the end, we knew we were interested in capturing humanity through whatever charming gestures or phrases children express. we asked them questions about their favorite animals, what sounds they make, what they dream about. after capturing the footage, it made sense to create a series of vignettes, each of which illustrated the featured child's personality; simple, raw, unpretentious.
so, it's not really a commercial.
it's a series of shorts based on the concept that the human speesees is wonderfully idiosyncratic. it was a great exercise where the process was integral to the outcome; 6 children, 8 parents coming together in a stranger's house, the children standing before a camera & answering random questions by a random person insisting on doing way too much (me: asking questions, filming, directing). the outcome may have been far more 'professional' with the proper lights, camera, director of photography, etc. but consequently, may have lost some of its imperfect charm. although a bit 'rough around the eges', i felt every moment was precisely as it was supposed to be.
to see the beginning few videos i have begun to upload to youtube, go to: http://youtube.com/results?search_query=speesees&search=
the goal is to upload a series of 50+ (video) moments, so keep a lookout in the next couple of weeks. as sadie's monkey says: who who whe he he he heyou:::

LOL! I *love* the "commercials," absolutely, love love LOVE them!
My favorite one was "no," and it really had me chuckling.
I love the speesees line of clothing, and it was one of my youngest daughter's favorite outfits last summer. I will definitely be directing my readers to your site, and I am SO glad you now have a blog. Woo-hoo!!
